INKBERROW
TWINNING ASSOCIATION
A Brief History of the Association
Autumn 1987: David Powis began it all by calling a meeting in the Bull’s Head to gauge interest. There was enough to go ahead and seek a Twin.
Spring 1988: A small delegation visited us from Bray-sur-Somme in March and Inkberrow returned the visit in June.
Autumn 1988: The first full visit from Bray took place and the Charter of Friendship between Inkberrow and Bray was signed. Our copy is displayed in the Parish Church.
Spring 1989: Our first full visit to Bray took place at the now traditional time of the Spring Bank Holiday.
Since 1989: We have maintained an arrangement of fairly informal visits to each other’s village in alternate years, and many close friendships with French families have been forged.
1998 and 1999: Our Tenth Anniversary celebrations took place in Inkberrow and Bray, marked by the French gift of the weathervane on our Village Hall and ours of the red postbox outside the Mairie in Bray.
Spring 2008: Our Twentieth Anniversary celebration took place in Inkberrow in early May, and was both proudly and joyously marked by a special dinner dance in our Village Hall, at which past and present English/French Presidents attended.
Today our membership is at around 35.
Our Twin Village
Bray-sur-Somme is an important freshwater fishing centre just over 20 miles east of Amiens in the attractive Picardy region of northern France, an area of woods, lakes and hills. Its position on the gently-flowing Somme means that it has many associations with the First World War, and there is still a strong feeling of gratitude for the sacrifice made by our soldiers.
Our Activities
We arrange a biennial with our partners in Bray, usually over the late May Bank holiday weekend. If you would like to act as hosts please get in touch.
The AGM held in November 2018 agreed to widen the activities to include the possibility of a sporting and cultural exchange.
